MEET ANGELA

When we first met Angela she could barely lift her eyes from the ground when we asked for her name.  She shuffled her feet, whispered an answer and met our eyes for only the briefest of seconds.  Girls like Angela make us wonder if they’ll be able to assert themselves when necessary.

During our Feminine Care Initiative in April 2011, Angela ran up to us, so excited and gleeful.  One thing was immediately noticeable:  she was using her voice.  Her school uniform was the same, but her confidence and self-assurance had given her a complete makeover.  She said she’s doing much better in school and her relationship with her parents had improved dramatically, because she’d learned how to speak up for herself.

She shines bright…

Seeing such amazing changes in this young woman makes me proud to be a mentor!
